Notre Dome

After the fire in April 2019, which severely damaged the roof and spire, France launched an enormous reconstruction effort. By late 2024, just in time for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, the cathedral was reopened to visitors.

New Face

Years of soot, pollution, and grime were carefully cleaned off the limestone. The original pale color of the stone, hidden for decades, is now visible again. So the “new face” you’re seeing isn’t actually new—it’s much closer to how the cathedral would have looked centuries ago. The restoration revealed details that had been obscured for generations, making the carvings and statues appear sharper and more refined.

Stunning Interior

The interior of Notre-Dame has also undergone significant restoration. When I visited this time—perhaps because it was a holiday—all the chandeliers were lit, filling the space with a warm and radiant glow. The rose windows appeared brighter than ever, their colors more vivid and luminous than before.

The entire cathedral now feels more magnificent and opulent, with a renewed sense of grandeur. Even if you’ve visited Notre-Dame in the past, the restored cathedral is absolutely worth experiencing again.
